Wood-Fired Gaiwan # 96186

Gaiwan 96186 has a wide projecting rim, a rounded bowl, and a substantial knob on its domed lid. The defined rim gives control when lifting the lid, while the dark layered surface brings strong visual depth to a tea table.

The gaiwan became established during the Ming period for brewing and drinking tea. Its covered bowl supports gongfu preparation: leaves steep in place, then the lid is angled to restrain them as tea is poured into cups or a fairness pitcher.

This Chinese wood-fired ceramic carries smoky charcoal, brown, and blue-grey tones, with ash variation and glossy darker areas on the lid. The changing bands show the kiln atmosphere across the form. Rinse after use, dry completely, and store with the lid apart.
