Mei Zhan Black Tea

Mei Zhan Black Tea originates from Fenglin Village, Shuyang Town, Nanjing County, Fujian Province. The Mei Zhan tea tree, also known as Da Ye Mei Zhan or Gao Jiao Oolong, is a semi-arbor, medium-leaf, and medium-bud variety. Known for its distinctive orchid aroma and full-bodied flavor, Mei Zhan tea is well-suited for producing both black and green teas.

The tea gardens are situated at an altitude of 900–950 meters, benefiting from the area’s clean air and rich soil. The tea is hand-picked between April 25 and May 10 and September 25 and October 10 each year, ensuring that the leaves are fresh and uniform. The harvesting process focuses on plucking tender single buds, avoiding damaged or pest-affected leaves, and maintaining hygiene during transportation and storage before processing.

Mei Zhan Black Tea undergoes a traditional multi-step production process: withering, spreading, shaking, oxidizing, fixation, rolling, drying, and refining. This meticulous craftsmanship enhances the tea’s floral fragrance and mellow taste, producing loose leaves with a vibrant appearance.

The brewed tea yields a bright amber infusion with a rich orchid aroma and a smooth, full-bodied flavor. The taste is both refreshing and complex, with a lingering sweetness that develops across multiple infusions.

For brewing, use a 160ml white porcelain gaiwan or teapot, 8 grams of tea, and water heated to 98–100°C. Infuse for 20–45 seconds, adjusting steeping time for subsequent brews to suit your taste. Purified water is recommended to bring out the tea’s full flavor.
