At Moychay Amsterdam, we take pride in presenting our new collection of rare, organic Thai teas. These extraordinary teas are sourced from wild, ancient tea trees deep within the jungles of northern Thailand.
With a commitment to sustainable, natural tea production, we offer a unique tea experience unlike anything else on the market.
Our collection includes Sheng Pu-erh, GABA tea, sun-dried Red tea, and White tea, all crafted from spring-harvested leaves using innovative yet traditional processing methods.
A Tea Collection Rooted in the Jungle
The uniqueness of our Thai teas stems from their wild origins. Grown in ancient, forgotten tea plantations now reclaimed by the jungle, these teas come from tea trees that thrive without fertilizers or pesticides. They draw their strength from the nutrient-rich soils of northern Thailand, producing teas with a purity and depth of flavor that can only be found in such natural, untamed environments.
What makes Thai tea particularly fascinating is its close relationship to the famous Yunnan teas of China. Both are harvested from the same variety of tea tree. However, the subtropical climate and the unique soil conditions of northern Thailand impart distinctive flavors and characteristics to our teas, setting them apart from their Chinese counterparts.
The Innovation of the Tea Forest Project
At the heart of our Thai tea production lies the Tea Forest Project. This initiative is dedicated to conserving the endemic jungle forests of northern Thailand by preserving the wild tea trees that naturally grow in the region. Our production takes place in the only tea factory in the area, located high in the mountains, right next to a nature reserve. The strategic location ensures that the tea trees absorb maximum nutrients from the earth, resulting in a tea rich in flavor and natural energy.
Our production facility continually evolves, incorporating new methods and tools to enhance the tea’s quality. A prime example of our innovation is our GABA tea, which is processed from wild-grown tea trees, marking a world-first achievement.
Exploring the New Collection
Our Thai tea collection includes four varieties: Sheng Pu-erh, sun-dried Red tea, GABA tea, and White tea. Each of these is hand-harvested, using traditional methods to maintain the integrity of the wild-grown tea leaves.
Sheng Pu-erh: Light and Floral
Our Sheng Pu-erh is produced using traditional Chinese methods but has a lighter, more floral flavor profile, resembling green or white tea. The tea leaves, harvested in the spring, are sun-dried to retain their natural qualities. After a year of aging, this tea develops a subtle depth while maintaining its fresh and delicate taste. Ideal for multiple brews, Sheng Pu-erh is smooth, with light notes that make it an excellent introduction to the Pu-erh family. Its combination of freshness and gentle complexity makes it a popular choice for those seeking a refined tea experience.
Red Tea: Sun-dried with Smoky Notes
One of the more unique teas in our collection is the sun-dried Red tea, produced using a method similar to that of Sheng Pu-erh. After a year of aging, this tea has developed subtle complexity, with gentle smoky undertones. The sun-drying process imparts a sweetness and mellow quality that shine through in every cup. Due to its limited production, this tea is a prized addition to any collection, offering an intriguing and distinctive drinking experience.
GABA Tea: A Harmonious Blend of Pu-erh and Oolong Techniques
Our GABA tea is the result of our innovative fermentation methods. It’s processed in large vacuum bags for eight hours, then further fermented to create a perfect balance between Pu-erh and red tea. During production, the tea undergoes a stage of shaking similar to the oolong tea process, enhancing its fruity and sweet aftertaste. GABA tea has a rich, almost syrupy texture, with a long-lasting flavor reminiscent of dried fruit. It’s an excellent choice for tea lovers who enjoy a complex, layered flavor profile.
White Tea: Delicate and Perfect for Warm Weather
The White tea in our collection is made from the tenderest buds and leaves, harvested in the spring. After careful handpicking, the leaves are withered in the shade for three days, allowing them to dry slowly and evenly. This gentle process results in a tea with fresh, grassy, and floral notes, making it perfect for warm weather. Its light, cooling qualities are particularly refreshing during the summer months. Given its labor-intensive production process, we produce only about one kilogram of this tea each season, making it a rare and highly sought-after addition to our collection.
A Commitment to Quality and Sustainability
At Moychay Amsterdam, sustainability is a core part of our philosophy. All of our teas are hand-harvested and processed using traditional methods that preserve their organic purity. We avoid any form of fertilization, allowing the tea trees to grow naturally in their wild environment. This ensures that each tea reflects the rich, natural essence of the Thai jungle.
Our dedication to quality is evident in every step of the production process, from the careful handpicking of the leaves to the meticulous aging and fermentation processes. The result is a collection of teas that not only offer unique and powerful flavors but also embody the beauty and strength of their wild origins.
