Tineke van Gils, a Dutch ceramic artist, began her career in 1984 in Amsterdam, later moving to a farm near Delft in 1995. Through skill development and technique exploration, she has become a master of combining methods on the potter's wheel, with a specialization in porcelain and an affinity for crafting intricate teapots.
Her teapots, which she describes as sculptural yet functional, led her to China. There, she crafted 100 unique porcelain teapots for a solo exhibition in Shanghai, invited by the porcelain capital Dehua. Subsequently, she created another series of unique teapots in Jingdezhen, upon invitation from the Prinsenhof Museum Delft.
"Dancing with clay!" is how Tineke describes her approach to porcelain on the potter's wheel. Her distinctive touch remains visible as traces on the surface of her pots, a testament to her fusion of traditional craftsmanship and a relentless pursuit of innovation. She strives for precision and immediacy by simplifying techniques while preserving spontaneity. Even after firing, Tineke's pots retain a sense of plasticity and vitality.
Tineke van Gils' works have been showcased across the Netherlands and internationally, including China, Japan, France, Spain, Germany, and now in Kansas City. She is frequently invited to deliver lectures and workshops in various countries. Her creations have been featured in notable magazines such as Ceramic Review (UK), Ceramics Art & Perception (AU), and New Ceramics (DE).
