Maofeng green tea is one of the most popular green teas in China, produced in many Chinese provinces, from Anhui and Yunnan to Guizhou and Sichuan, and it has significant differences depending on the origin. Originally, maofeng means fur peak in Chinese because the most well-known Maofeng tea from Huangshan has a needle-like shape, which is a nod to the tea's appearance and the mountainous terrain where it's grown.

However, not all Maofeng teas look like that. Mount Emei is located in Sichuan Province and is famous not only because it's one of the Buddhist sacred mountains but also because the area around it is known for its early-harvested green tea.

Maofeng green tea from Emeishan has small, curly rolled leaves, a very long-lasting intense taste, and an excellent color of tea infusion. When brewed, it releases a fragrant bouquet that can evoke notes of flowers and sometimes a hint of sweetness akin to fresh-cut grass.
