Moychay Tea Culture Club, Rozengracht 92H, Amsterdam Ever wondered what’s really happening in your cup of tea — and in your body when you drink it? Join us for an evening where science meets tradition, guided by Natalia, a PhD in Chemistry and passionate Chinese tea drinker. Tea has been known for centuries as a drink of focus, calmness, and clarity — but what gives it those effects? During this session, Natalia will explore the chemistry behind tea and how it influences both body and mind. We’ll dive into key tea compounds — Caffeine, Catechins, Theaflavins, and L-Theanine — and learn about their main physiological effects: from antioxidant and metabolic functions to mood and neurocognitive balance. Throughout the evening, we’ll taste and discuss:
White & Green Tea – gentle oxidation, strong antioxidant activity, and the balance of calm alertness.
Oolong, Red & Pu-erh Tea – deeper fermentation, “fat-cutting” properties, and support for digestion and cholesterol management. We’ll also touch upon the less-discussed side effects — like digestive sensitivity or caffeine-related discomfort — and how to enjoy tea in harmony with your body. This workshop is both scientific and sensory — perfect for anyone curious about the why behind tea’s effects, or those who simply want to understand their favourite drink on a deeper level.
About the Host: Natalia holds a PhD in Chemistry and has been exploring Chinese teas for years. Their powerful and sometimes unpredictable effects inspired her to look at tea through a professional lens — connecting science with experience, knowledge with taste.
