Dark Nectar Oolong is a hybrid tea made from a mixture of cultivars — primarily Tie Guanyin and Jinxuan — and processed using a fusion of techniques from Shu Puer (熟普洱) and Liu Bao (六堡) dark tea traditions. This tea is a part of an ongoing Moychay's experimental program, focused on the fermentation and post-fermentation of oolongs. The production method includes pile fermentation under controlled humidity, followed by a prolonged baking phase (“baking with precision”) to stabilize the flavors and structure of the leaf.
The liquor is deep reddish-brown, with a mellow, grounded flavor and a hint of dried fruit. Aromatics include damp wood, toasted grains, and faint sweetness. The tea performs well over multiple steepings and is especially suited for those interested in transitional or experimental styles between oolong and dark teas.
