Chawan is the Japanese name for a tea bowl, used in chanoyu for preparing and serving matcha. Shino glaze developed in Japan during the Momoyama period, and its appeal lies in restrained colour, soft opacity and variation created during firing.

Made in China in a wood-fired Shino style, this piece combines a cool grey glaze with exposed reddish clay, raised marks and darker firing variation. Clean it gently with warm water after use, then dry the bowl completely before storing.
