About DutCHawan
More than 25 years ago I wrote an article for the magazine
Keramiek titled Kom vertoon uw kunsten maar! (“Bowl, show your art!”) about the bowl — the most elementary form in clay. Yet in all its simplicity, the bowl is inexhaustible: anyone who thinks they’ve reached the end is only at the beginning. Now, 25 years later, I invited thirty colleagues from the Netherlands — makers of applied and/or autonomous art — to respond to the bowl of bowls: the chawan. A form with deeper meaning and symbolism, closely connected to the Eastern tea ceremony. The result is an enthusiastic series of works, with wonderfully diverse and surprising chawan interpretations. On the poster you’ll see only one work from each participant — you’ll discover much more in the exhibition itself. And the wider selection of Asian-oriented tea ceramics offered by Moychay makes a visit to this tea club even more worthwhile.

Come and see — and let yourself be surprised.
