This matcha bowl, or chawan, has a broad opening and low foot that make whisking comfortable and steady. Its thick, rounded walls retain warmth, while the irregular rim and heavily textured surface give the hands a tactile grip.

The chawan is the bowl form traditionally used for preparing and drinking matcha in Japan, within a tea culture shaped by Chinese tea practices. Its open profile accommodates the whisk and allows the tea to be worked vigorously at the table.

This piece is made in China and finished with a wood-fired glaze, visible in the grey, brown, and copper tones, bubbling, and exposed dark firing marks. Rinse gently after use, wipe dry, and avoid abrasive cleaning.
