The chawan has a broad, low body, an open rim and a small foot, giving whisked matcha space to develop foam and making the bowl stable in the hands. Its visibly irregular surface combines grey, brown and pale blue glaze with pronounced fired pits and raised texture.

The chawan is the traditional bowl used to whisk and drink matcha in Japan, with forms shaped around direct use at the tea table. Matcha bowls vary widely in profile and glaze, and wood firing is appreciated for its changing surface effects rather than uniform decoration.

Made in China, this bowl shows strong kiln variation, ash deposits and a dark foot beneath its mottled glaze. The visible irregularities are part of its stated slight imperfection. Rinse gently after use and dry completely before storing.
