Wood-Fired Shino Glaze Matcha Cup # 96213

The footed matcha cup has a broad, gently rounded body and a slightly flared rim, giving whisked tea room to move while making the cup comfortable to hold. Its pale Shino surface is broken by warm peach, green and dark wood-fired markings, with a crackled glaze adding tactile depth.

Its low, open profile follows the wider tradition of the matcha bowl, or chawan, developed for whisking and drinking tea in Japan. Shino glaze emerged in the Mino kilns during the late sixteenth century, and such vessels are used directly at the table during a matcha preparation.

Made in China in a wood-fired ceramic style, this piece shows ash effects, firing variation and a dark, unglazed foot. The glaze shifts from creamy white to blush and olive across the walls. Rinse gently after use and dry thoroughly.
