Red Ruby Black Tea (Hong Bao Shi)

€13,14
Red Ruby is a premium black tea developed in 2013 as a counterpart to Green Emerald (绿宝石), using high-quality tea cultivars from Guizhou Province. Produced by Guizhou Guicha Group, this tea grows in highland gardens at elevations between 500 and 1400 meters. It was awarded the German DLG Agricultural Gold Medal in 2016 alongside its green tea sibling.

The tea is picked by hand in spring and summer, occasionally blended with select autumn harvests to ensure year-round consistency. The plucking standard is one bud with two to three leaves. Processing includes withering, shaking, rolling, full oxidation, dehydration, shaping into granules, and drying. The result is a uniform, compact “pan-flower” shape with a deep, glossy black color and fine hairs.

When brewed, Red Ruby produces a bright red liquor with an elegant, lingering sweetness. The aroma is rich and floral with fruity undertones, while the flavor is thick, smooth, and naturally sweet with a soft returning finish. It is strong yet balanced, and well-suited for multiple infusions.

To brew, use around 6 grams of tea in a gaiwan or teapot with water at 90°C. Infuse the first round for 10 seconds, increasing slightly with each brew. It holds well through 3–4 infusions.
