Chawan is the Japanese term for a tea bowl, especially associated with chanoyu, where matcha is whisked in the vessel and offered to a guest. Shino glaze emerged in Japan during the Momoyama period and is known for subtle, changing surfaces rather than uniform colour.

Made in China in a wood-fired Shino style, this bowl displays charcoal, cream and russet tones, with exposed clay and pronounced firing texture around the body. Wash gently with warm water, dry thoroughly, and handle the irregular rim with care.
