 Moychay Tea Culture Club, Rozengracht 92H, Amsterdam We’re inviting you to spend the afternoon with Tineke van Gils — one of the most well-known teapot makers in the Netherlands — for a special live pottery demonstration combined with a traditional tea ceremony.

The event begins with a Gong Fu Cha session, where tea is brewed slowly and with intention. It sets the tone for what follows: a chance to watch how porcelain takes form under Tineke’s hands as she makes teapots and tea bowls on the wheel. Seeing it in person — the precision, rhythm, and quiet concentration — feels a bit like watching music being played.

Tineke will also share a short video presentation from her time working between the old wood-fired kilns in Jingdezhen and Shanghai, the porcelain capitals of China. She’ll tell about the months she spent there as an artist-in-residence, creating over a hundred teapots for her solo exhibitions. Through her stories, you’ll get a glimpse of what it’s like to work alongside Chinese masters, fire porcelain in giant kilns, and bring home that experience into her own studio practice.

For tea and teapot lovers alike, this is a rare opportunity to meet the person behind the pieces — to see how the teaware we use every day actually comes to life. The atmosphere will be informal and open, with tea being shared throughout.
